This is the greatest hour to follow Jesus.

I was thinking and I was taken to Second Samuel and to the life of David and thinking about David as such a prototype of what extravagance really looks like.

And I think that the pinnacle or the high watermark of surrender is not just obedience.

It's actually extravagance. And that sometimes we have lived a life

where we've maybe tapped into the love of God and that love then leads us to surrender. And then

that surrender leads us to what we have talked so much about and rightfully so about an obedient life.

But I think that obedience is just the beginning of our response to the love of God.

And really the goal is not just obedience, it's extravagance.

It's not just what he's commanded us to do.

It's what we do out of a heart that is overflowing with love for him,

not because he commanded it, but because we can't do anything else.

We can't help but love him more.

And his commands become like a baseline to relationship with him, not the pinnacle. And our

extravagance becomes the pinnacle. What more could we do for a God who has loved us so much?

And I look at the life of David in 2nd Samuel, chapter 6. You know the story where he becomes king and Saul had been content to lead Israel without

the ark, without the tabernacle, without the tangible manifest presence of God in his kingdom.

But when David becomes king, it's one of the first thing he does is essentially I will not

rule in Israel void of the presence of God.

I will not be king over Israel without the king in our midst.

And so one of the first things that he does is he goes to get the ark.

And you know the story well, so I'm just going to go through it quickly.

And he sets the ark on a new cart brought from the house of Abinidadam.
