0:19.6	So let's talk Ukraine Gate dominating the news right now.
0:23.3	At the center of this impeachment drive against Trump is that he briefly froze military aid
0:30.7	to Ukraine, and the belief there is he did so for political purposes.
0:35.4	Putting that question aside, what has gotten lost in all this is the question of why are
0:39.6	we sending military aid to Ukraine?
0:43.2	And is that wise policy?
0:46.2	The conventional line we get is that we are helping defend Ukraine from Russian aggression
0:50.8	after Russia invaded Ukraine, took Crimea illegally in 2014.
0:58.2	And we are helping Ukraine respond to that and to help support Ukraine in spite against
1:03.0	Russian separatists in the Donbass.
1:05.8	What say you did that?
1:06.8	Well, the first thing to remember is that President Obama was under enormous pressure to
1:13.0	send military equipment to Ukraine.
1:14.9	I don't know if you remember that or not, but it was a major campaign, and it was led,
1:20.1	as I recall, by people very close to him, and he refused.
1:24.5	And why did he refuse?
1:25.9	Well, I'm not sure what his calculation was, but the wisdom
1:29.9	of not sending is clear. First of all, what everybody must want is peace between Russia
