The vegetables you need in a usual kitchen garden, that's where our idea began, everything

you can sow in harvest from a kitchen garden. The village of Brozek in the far west corner

of Poland, just 82 families, a whitewash church and a fire station, where Dorota Gwavatska

and her friends were sorting vegetable seeds into kinds to send to Ukraine. The evening light

falls through wide open doors onto a row of yellow fire helmets and onto sacks, boxes,

envelopes of seeds, the receipts everywhere. Dorota and Brozek leapt into action when

they saw with horror, the Russian army invade Ukraine. We sat together, it was my husband's

birthday and thought we have to do something and since we're farmers we thought the best

thing to do is vegetables. You know in the 1980s there was nothing in Poland, we had nothing,

we survived only on our kitchen gardens so we thought you know what, we can do this, we

can do this and then we planned to send maybe one pallet load or two, you know we weren't,

we weren't sure how it would go. I'm Monica Whiplog and on assignment this week we're

in Brozek, hearing about a homemade farmer to farmer network which has grown fast to help

feed Ukraine, where farms are bombed, supply routes cut and the commercial growing regions

in the south under Russian occupation. This is the less visible front line in the war,

the crisis in agriculture that has hit Ukraine and farmers' war on will soon hit the world.

We called the administration, they weren't very helpful so we turned to our parish priest

who put it on Facebook and then somebody out of Goodwill put a link to us on large groups

of say 15,000 people and suddenly we're getting donations from all over the world. France,

Germany, we're collecting in Italy, America, the United States.

The priest, he was just picking up phone calls about orders and shipments and he was like,
