I'm John Batchew with Colonel Jeff McCausen, the United States Army retired, CBS News, Dickinson College, visiting a professor, as well as the CEO of Diamond Sixth leadership and strategy.

Jeff is a veteran of NATO, and NATO is a very successful organization, headquartered in Brussels, and it has new leadership under Mark Rudy, former prime minister.

And Mark Rudy in these last days has concentrated on the immediate future.

How so?

In the event of conflict between Russia and a member of NATO,

the first days will be bloody-minded and fog of war.

But there is no avoiding the fact that the forces that exist in Europe,

if they are hard-pressed or overrun, need to be resupplied from America.

That means incoming. That means fast transportation.

That means the U.S. Navy. And that means a port. Rotterdam is now nominated to be the hub for NATO reinforcement. This gets very real, very fast. The expectation also is that Mark Rudy expects

an attack on a NATO nation by 2030. They use that date to get everybody's attention. Got mine.

All right, Jeff, Rotterdam, you're familiar with all aspects of NATO. Is resupply something that NATO has solved and needs to solve again, or has this always been in place?

Well, John, we tried to solve it during the Cold War, and a lot of it was through so-called Pompkis, pre-positioned overseas material configured in unit sets.

And those were actually brigade division amounts of

equipment, tanks, armed personnel carriers, trucks, etc. that were positioned in Europe so

you could fly over troops, jump on the equipment, and move out. Those were all withdrawn in the

aftermath of the Cold War. In addition to that, very large stockpiles of ammunition for

artillery, tanks, et cetera,

we're prepositioned all across Europe.
