I'm delighted to say we're joined by Labour MP Barry Gardner, former Shadow Climate Change Secretary

and member of the newly created Energy Security and Net Zero Committee in House of Commons.

As well as Pete Chalkley, director of the think tank, the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit,

and Luke Murphy, head of the Environmental Justice Commission at the Institute for Public Policy Research.

So Pete, I'm going to start by you, just explaining really what kind of NetZero.

It's a topic we've heard for the last few years, but what does it really sort of mean?

It was Theresa May at the end of her premiership, kind of attempt to have some sort of legacy on her time in office.

And what is it when she announced it and where is it kind of now?

Good question. I mean, I think it kind of gets kicked around a little bit as a kind of political concept,

whereas at its foundation, it's really just a simple scientific equation,

unless you stop adding emissions to the atmosphere, unless you get to zero,

and net out by sucking out emissions, trees, that kind of thing, anything that's still going up there,

then you don't halt climate change.

You know, the IPCC, all of the world's governments and leading scientists in this space are very clear.

Net Zero is halting climate change.

And I think to a certain extent, the debate around this has kind of lost that key point,

maybe in the past few months.

Net zero is not divorced from climate change, solving climate change, net zero, one and the same.

And we've actually got some polling, not yet released, but it shows that some MPs still
