So I thought we start today's podcast with a fairly simple history question.

Just who was the first man to fly an airplane non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean?

Well, most people would respond with Charles Lindbergh, who definitely did fly from New York to Paris starting on May 20th of

1927.

But being a teacher, I'd only give you half credit for that answer.

That's because Lindbergh was the first to fly an airplane so low across the Atlantic, but he was not the first to do so.

The thought of flying over the Atlantic goes back. he was not the first to do so.

The thought of flying over the Atlantic goes back to the beginning of flight itself.

That's with the invention of hot air balloons.

In 1859, Philadelphia native John Wise made the first attempt in an enormous balloon that he named the Atlantic.

Unfortunately, he never did cross the Atlantic.

That flight ended with a crash landing in Henderson, New York.
