It's wedding season in Uganda and across the country couples are celebrating their marriage in front of family and friends.

I was born in the UK to Ugandan parents and now at the age of 35

I've reached what so many of my family call marrying age.

So I've come to Uganda to find out how couples are getting married.

The conditions that have to be honored and the bills that have to be paid if you want to tie the knot.

In Uganda today there is this trend that has just popped up in this country.

Everyone wants to spend a lavishlyishly five years ago you will talk to

somebody and you're like look here 80 people are enough be like yeah it's about me

getting married today 80 people are you serious Uganda, nuptials are now big business with big

venues, big dresses and big bills. In a quest to show of new found wealth and also in a race to outdo their neighbors.

Couples are falling into financial ruin, all in a search for that perfect wedding.

I'm Magabe Turia and you're listening to Uganda the price of

marriage on the BBC World Service. In the town of in Bari in eastern Uganda a young woman is preparing for the biggest day of her life.

I began realizing that I fell in love with Joseph when he sent me a song. He sent me a song and the song was so touching

it made me reflect about my life with him. That song made me have a sleepless night. It kept on ringing

in my mind over and over. And I said I didn't know that I felt this I needed

for my best friend but the feeling I had that time made me realize that actually I liked him. I was in love with him.

This young woman in love is 27 year old C.C. Naboray.C.C. works as a banker and Kampala, but has returned home to her family for her

wedding.

Joseph proposed to me in September last year.
