Hello, and welcome to the TIFO football podcast. I am Joe Devine, and today I'm joined by Seb Staffer Blore. Hello, Jay. Hello, how are you? I'm very well, thank you. Oh good. Thanks for coming. No problem. Today we're talking about UEFA. That's very exciting, isn't it? Yeah. We're talking about UEFA because there are two big European finals upcoming. And at the start, I would like to let listeners know that for the last sort of 10 minutes of this podcast, we might discuss a bit of the football, but we're going to leave that until the end, because some of you might be listening to this after the games have taken place. Most of the rest of the information will still be of interest to you and isn't time sensitive in the same way. So if you want to stick around to the football bit at the end, please do.

getting there. So we're going to talk about that. The other one,

1:44.6

the Europa League final, is in Baku, in Azerbaijan, and there are potentially some more problems

1:51.5

there we're going to discuss as well. So we thought it would be useful, Seb, if you would be

1:56.4

able to enlighten me and us as to the process of choosing a location for a final of a big European

2:03.6

tournament because it's obviously the location, the choice is made some years in advance

2:09.2

of the final itself. Is that accurate? Yeah, I think people should think of it as most people

2:13.2

would be familiar with the World Cup bidding process. It's very, very similar. So, although it'll

2:18.1

be it on a shorter time scale. So back in 2017, cities were invited to tender for the opportunity

to host the various European finals. So they, you over tend to gather these on mass. So they
