the head football coach at UCLA. He was hired on December 6th. He was at James Madison the last two

years. He went 21 and 6 overall during those two years. He won the Sunbelt championship last season, led the Dukes to the college football playoff as well, the 2025 Sunbell Conference Coach of the year. UCLA is going to play a spring football game tomorrow. Of course, I'm talking about Bob Chesney. Bob, great to have you back on the show. How you doing, Bob? Great, man. Great to be back. You told me we were going to be doing this

in the studio, though, last time we talked when I was back in Virginia. So we got to get over there sooner than later. Right? Or I got to come to you, one or the other, Bob. You're right. I appreciate you calling me on that, remembering that. The offer, the offer still stands, even though I didn't make good on the offer, but I will. All right. So listen, we,

we spoke in December after you were hired, and you were getting James Madison ready for the

playoff against Oregon. Crazy, crazy time. Did you ever get a minute to catch your breath

and decompress, or frankly, if you still not come up for air? Yeah, I just don't think you'd come up

for much air around here. When you went through

it at James Madison, like we talked before, when you really think about what we had to do was

assemble a staff. We were still playing games. I had to try to make sure I stayed committed to that

JMU team. There was a benefit of this being three hours behind. So in the end of the day,

you know, showed up at James Madison. I was able to get to work on building a staff and that started with our GM, Derek Ray. And then the rest of it just became history. We got back. As soon as we got back, the portal opened. Once the portal opened, you know, we've just been working ever since, spring game coming out tomorrow. And then we'll have a chance to take a little bit of a breath in the midst of all of this recruiting madness is where it all lies right now. I figured that might be the case. Bob Chesney, joining us. So, Bob, for those who don't know, originally you're from northeast Pennsylvania. You spent your entire career coaching on the east on the east coast. So how is SoCal treating you and your family? What's the transition been like? Yeah, it's been great. My family moved out here. I would say two weeks ago, so they started into school a little bit challenging, you know, when they walk into the building, you know, friendships are already made, 80% of the school year's done, and they're just, you know, figuring it out. And I think they're doing a great job. Their resilience can be and they really love being out here. Obviously, the weather, the things to do. Yesterday, my brother came here. They went to Disney. My other buddy showed up. They went to Universal and there's just so much, you know, going on out here, obviously for kids that I think it's a pretty special place. And, you know, I feel fortunate every day to get to drive into work here and be on this beautiful campus

with just one of the greatest up-and-coming teams that exist at this moment.

How instrumental was he in your life both personally and professionally?
