U.S. stocks ticked up today as investors weighed weaker than expected consumer confidence data

and the fading hopes of a deal to avoid a government shutdown.

Funding will lapse at 12.01 a.m. overnight Wednesday, unless Congress

passes a stopgap spending bill. The Dow was up 0.2%, the NASDAQ, 0.3%, and the S&P 500, 0.4%. Energy stock

slumped as oil futures extended their declines, while gold futures hit a record high before pulling back.

Among other companies, shares of Spotify fell 4% after its CEO, Daniel Eck, announced he's stepping down.

Coreweave stock jumped 12% after it struck a multi-year cloud computing deal with meta.

Shares of Pfizer climbed 7% after the

journal reported its CEO would announce a plan to lower drug costs at the White House, and shares

in the semiconductor company Wolfspeed surged 29% after it exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Heads up, an artificial intelligence tool helped
