All three major U.S. stock indexes ended the day up as Israel and Iran's ceasefire got off to a shaky start.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 507 points to close at 43,089.

The S&P 500 rose 67 points, and the NASDAQ advanced 282 points.

U.S. oil prices extended Monday's slide, falling around 5% to about $65 a barrel. The retreat came

after President Trump said China could buy Iranian oil, despite sanctions designed to impede such trade.
