US hiring slowed in August in the latest sign the labour market's cooling.

Things are looking like they're moving in the right direction in terms of inflation

and though the Fed does want to see which pressures come down and the labour market loosen

there was nothing really decisive in this report to suggest that like that's not happening.

And the FTC drops its legal challenge to a major healthcare merger between Amgen and Horizon therapeutics.

US job gains eased in August and assigned the labour market as cooling as the federal reserve

has raised interest rates to slow the economy.

The labour department set employers added 187,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.8%.

Weages were a strong point too, with hourly earnings up 4.3% from a year earlier.

So what does it all mean?

Here now is Wall Street Journal economics reporter Gwen Gilford.

So when jobs are not moving in a uniform way across all sectors, what are we seeing in terms of which are slowing down and which are growing?

So in terms of what is slowing down, we had a couple big hits to employment in the form of the bankruptcy of yellow, the trucking company.
