Day 14 of the Twilight Zone podcast Advent Calendar and our friend Matt Cox says,

my question for the 2025 Advent calendar is this, what are your favorite musical scores from the series? Now I've got to admit,

Zach, I feel like sometimes the music is something that I've neglected to talk about in the Twilight

Zone podcast. Sometimes I do, but there's probably a lot more to say than I ever have done.

So my pick for this, I do actually remember referring to because it is one of my favorites.

I'm not sure how often I would listen to it in isolation, but it is good. And it's the

score for the Midnight Sun by Nathan Van Cleave because I feel like of all the Twilight Zone

episodes, that one just fits the subject matter so beautifully. It's like this

ticking death clock. You know, you know they're doomed. We know they're doomed. They know

they're doomed. Everyone is doomed. And the music is pretty much just counting down to it.

These people have absolutely no hope.

So yeah, it's not something that I throw on while I'm sunbathing or something like that.

But I think it is absolutely a really great score.

And so that is the Midnight Sun.

What about you?

Yeah, I would say anything by bernard herman or jerry goldsmith it's it's hard to single out individual scores since well one since so much stock music was used over the course of the show so some episodes that i would associate music with that i saw first they're like that's actually been used three or four times already in the show, right? And then also listening to so much of your podcast over the years has really blurred what music is from what episode. You know, all the incidental music you play and it's great and it's very atmospheric. And I'm like, is that, I don't even know what episode of the Twilight Zone that's from. I know it's from this episode of Tom's podcast, but I will say as iconic as the Twilight

Zone theme by Mary's Constant, which, by the way, I had to look up his name.

So shame on me.

I was like, who did the do do do do do do do.

Who did that score?

The Bernard Herman stuff, it's just so atmospheric and so much the identity of the show

and really defined the identity of the show in those early years.
