Again, Donald Trump with his despicable eyes has lit a fire beneath Republican state

legislators, and they have launched the most sweeping voter suppression efforts in at least

in at least 80 years. More than 250 bills and 43 states were introduced just between

the months of January and February that would restrict the right to vote.

So hey, it's voting right today in Washington Gibbs. And who better to decode all of this

theater for us than the great Amy Walter from the cook report?

Thank you. I didn't bring my I brought my ring from the cereal box of my youth to try

to put that to work. So look, I don't want to I mean, I think that this

this it is not there to watch this cascade of bills around the country based on and

they are based on a lie, basically, that the last election was somehow fraudulent. And

therefore we have to take draconian steps to try and stop this fraud from happening again.

That's not true, but it's also true that this is kind of theater today, isn't it Amy?

Right. But this is this is not going to get 60 votes. We all know that. And we know

that this bill actually that is being voted on was was put together actually. And I remember

this back in 2018, a sort of a messaging bill for the 2018 election. Sort of a here's

what Democrats stand for, right? It was a big overarching bill, not just about voting

rights, but it was really at least in 2018, a bill, or at least the emphasis was on the

other piece of this legislation, which was on campaign finance. Right. And you remember

that midterm election. So many of those candidates ran on no corporate money pledges. And we're

going to take special interests out of Washington. Right. That was the focus. And 2020 happened.
