Summary

Two charming stories from Nigeria. The first is a funny fable about a Spider, a Hippo and an Elephant. The second is about a wise man who rides on a Hyena on the way back from Mecca. Umar Isa Dandago links up with us from Nigeria to introduce the story and play the part of the tricky spider. He also tells us about the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca, which is taking place now and features in the second story.

0:18.1	Hi Jana, I'm so pleased to be on story Nori.
0:22.1	It's wonderful to have you here Umar.
0:24.4	Please can you tell us how you used to hear stories while you were growing up?
0:28.7	I can remember when we were children we used to go to our aunties and grandmothers
0:34.5	who would sit down, listen to some interesting stories, some tales
0:39.7	and the purpose of those stories are to strike some moral lessons in the in our hearts, for example.
0:46.9	And and to also make us more fearful of some evil things because in each tale they had moral lessons.
0:56.4	We would love to hear some of those stories. Can you suggest one?
1:00.8	Yeah, of course. There is an amusing story about how a spider tricked an elephant and a hippo.
1:08.2	That's hippopotamus.
1:09.9	Excellent, let's do that one.
1:12.3	Do you have time to stick around and play the part of the spider for us?
1:15.8	It's a pleasure to do that of course.
1:18.0	Once upon a time in a lush forest beside a peaceful river,
1:23.0	elephant and hippopotamus love to show off.
1:27.4	Elephant with his massive feet and thundering roar proclaimed himself as the king of the forest.
1:38.2	Bow to me for the earth trembles under my steps.
