I'm Heidi White and today is Monday, February 14th, Valentine's Day. So in honor of Valentine's Day, I'm going to break

tradition on the Daily Poem just a little bit, and instead of reading one poem, I'm going to read two.

The poets are American poet John Balaban and his wife, Lonnie Balaban. I couldn't find much on Lonnie.

And so if any of our listeners know anything about Lonnie Balaban as a poet, I'd love to, love to hear from you.

I couldn't find anything in my poetry books or in my, you know, internet research. But I did find some about John Balaban.

He was born in 1943. He's still living. He is a poet, a writer. He's written 13 published books.

And he is a scholar and a translator of Vietnamese literature, including poetry.

So the reason I'm going to read both of these poems is because they're a conversation.
