It is obviously the case that the reporting of the current or recent early releases of prisoners

is considerably more comprehensive than coverage of similar cases under previous governments,

so much so that even I couldn't believe my own ears earlier when I heard somebody claiming that it couldn't possibly have happened under previous governments because we would

have noticed the headlines. Well, some of us did. William Fernandez was awaiting trial for sexual

assault in March 2021 when he was released by error from Wormwood Scrubs. He went on to rape a 16-year-old

girl and sexually assault a young woman. In December 2019, the prisons and probation service apologized unreservedly after a serial rapist

called Joseph McCann. I brought this story to your attention yesterday, but some people don't

notice these headlines, was freed to commit a series of sex attacks on women and children.
