Summary

Hours after a Texas judge suspended FDA approval of a medication abortion pill, another federal judge in Washington said the drug can remain on the market in at least 12 Democratic-led states. The majority of abortions in the U.S. are medication abortions. Dr. Jenn Conti is an abortion provider and an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of OB/GYN at Stanford University. She tells Anderson Cooper what the impact of these two rulings could have on women.

Plus, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joins AC360 to discuss these two abortion pill rulings and the two Democratic Tennessee state lawmakers who were expelled from the Republican-control state House of Representatives over a gun control protest.

0:03.0	Two court rulings, the first potentially life altering for women in this country, a
0:07.0	federal judge in Texas putting government approval of a drug widely used to terminate
0:11.6	pregnancies on hold effective seven days from now.
0:15.0	If a pristone is the name of the drug, it first got FDA approval more than two decades
0:19.7	ago.
0:20.7	And until recently, the notion of a judge having grounds to reverse approval of it was
0:24.6	seen by many legal experts as dubious at best.
0:27.7	However, abortion opponents steered their case to a judge named Matthew Kismaric of
0:32.4	the Fifth Circuit in Texas, and he is ruled as they hoped.
0:36.2	Just after that, we got word of a ruling in a different federal court in Washington
0:39.8	state affecting only some states on the same drug.
0:42.6	So there's a lot to get to seen in Supreme Court reporter Ariane DeVogue joins us right
0:46.2	now on both ruling.
0:47.4	So Ariane, first tell us about the Texas ruling and what that means.
0:51.0	Right, it's been an unbelievable night, right?
0:53.6	Both of these rulings opposing, and they both have to do with the FDA's approval of
0:59.6	the medication abortion drug, and that approval came in 2000 in this first case.
1:05.9	What the federal judge said is he blocked the government's approval of this drug.
1:12.0	He said he was going to put this on hold for a week to allow it, allow appeals to occur,
1:18.3	but basically he said that the government had not taken into account the risks of the
1:23.1	drug.
