From microbe TV, this is Twiv, this week in virology, Episode 930 recorded on August 25th, 2022.

I'm Vincent Racken Yellow and you're listening to the podcast all about viruses. Joining me today from

0:27.2

New York, Daniel Griffin. Yes, I am back in New York no longer in some Scottish city that I mispronounce.

0:36.8

So listen to Nell Zeldy and you on this week in evolution. We had a lot of fun with

0:46.0

is it Edinburgh, you know, or Edinburgh, but it's definitely not Edinburgh. All right, so I am back,

0:53.1

we got a lot to cover in addition to Scottish pronunciation. So I will start with a quotation,

1:00.0

the old, the poor, and the sick were being relegated to second-class citizenship. Our real values

1:06.6

are not the ones that disappear in hard times. They are the ones that show up in hard times.

1:32.4

listener to Andy Slavitt's podcast in the bubble during the pandemic. And I did enjoy 12, 9, 29,

1:39.7

Empathology, Empathyology, I guess, with Andy Slavitt. But I did realize listening to that

1:50.0

podcast that Andy was not a twiv listener, sort of unfortunate. I think at least he should have

1:56.4

listened to the clinical updates, right? Because that's kind of what he's involved with. And I think

2:02.4

he's misguided by his so-called experts. Yeah, and we can say that. You don't have to hold back

2:08.8

on that. I think that you know, you tried to point this out because he kept saying, well, you know,

2:13.2

all the scientists were saying, I'm saying, you know what, Andy, all the media echo chamber folks

2:18.9

that you were hanging out with were saying the same stuff. And part of staying in that media echo

2:25.9

chamber, I mean, I know sometimes I get a call from someone in the media. I know what they want me

2:29.8

to say. And if you say it, then they're going to put you, you know, you're going to be on Fox News,

...
