From ASM Microbe 2022 in Washington, DC, this is TWIV, this week in virology, a special episode

0:21.0

recorded on June 12, 2022. I'm Vincent Racken-Yellow, and you're listening to the podcast all about

0:29.5

viruses joining me today here in Washington, DC from this week in microbiology. Michael Schmitt,

0:38.7

hello everyone, I'm here to keep Vincent honest. You know, Michael's wandering around, so I thought

0:44.1

we should pull him up here and have a little Ted Russ. We mix our talent among podcasts,

0:51.2

right? Thank you, Michael, for joining us. Thank you, Vincent. We have two guests today who are

0:56.1

science artists, and they're exhibiting right behind us today. And I thought you would like to hear

1:03.1

about what they do and how they do it and what inspires them and so forth. These are two artists I

1:07.5

have followed for years. I have purchased many of their items, and I'll tell you more about that later.

1:15.0

But right next to me here from Trillobite Studios, Jane Hartman, welcome to TWIV.

1:21.1

Thank you, it's so nice to be here. You can see Jane is wearing glass virus

1:26.0

earrings, so we'll have her explain all about those. And from Artylogica, Michelle Banks,

1:34.0

welcome back. Thank you. And you have been on TWIV before, right? I have been on TWIV before,

1:40.1

and I'm a painter. I live in DC. All of my work is inspired by science. What we'll be talking about

1:46.5

that. Yeah, and you are here also in Rockville. Yes, I'm in Rockville, Maryland, which is a suburb of

1:52.1

DC. So close by. And so a couple of years ago, we had an American Society for Viralogy meeting

1:59.5

in at the University of Maryland College Park campus, and you came to that. So when there are

2:05.1

local meetings, you try and get to show your works, right? That's great. So Jane, Trillobite Studios,

2:14.5

why did you come up with that name? So my formal education was in geology and then paleontology

2:23.2

for my master's degree. So Trillobite was a nod to my education. Okay, God, that's good. And

2:31.2

Artylogica, where did that come from? It's basically ours, Biological, so laughing for biological art.
