I'm Vincent Rackeniello and you're listening to the podcast all about viruses. We are in Quebec City,

Canada at the University of La Valle at a meeting which brings together scientists focused on

the study of viruses in aquatic systems. Joining me here at this meeting from Virginia Tech on my

left, Frank L. Word. Welcome to TWIV. Thanks very much for having me. You can't look at my notes.

Thank you. Glad to be here. And we're going to hear a little about their training and their work.

But remember, TWIV, over half of the TWIV audience, not scientists. And these are two hour

episodes. This will be an hour. Don't worry. Usually two hour episodes where you go deeply into

science. I find that amazing that so many non-scientists want to listen. So today, when you hear me,

me asking certain questions, it's to get to explain things to people who don't think about science

all the time, like pro-chlorococcus. Nobody knows what pro-chlorococcus is. So you guys, it's like a

a word you bandy about, but listeners won't know what it is. So if it comes up, I'll ask you

to explain it. First, I want to find out a little bit about your history. Tell us, you know,

where you're from, your education, right through from, let's say, college,

through what got you to where you are today. And Frank, let's start with you.

Yeah, I'm from Arizona, I grew up in Arizona. I went to the University of Arizona

for my undergrad degree, and then I got at PhD at the University of Wisconsin.
