Summary

Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter has been marked by mass sackings, mass resignations, mass desertions by advertisers, a calamitous abandoned rollout of 'Twitter Blue', and talk of bankruptcy: all in the space of a fortnight. Is this really the end of Twitter?

We're joined by New York Times tech reporter Mike Isaac with the inside story of a disaster, and former Twitter vice-president Bruce Daisley.

Welcome to the show, Blimey. What a lot we have to talk about today. The continued

0:22.6

implosion of Twitter in real time. Horrifying, gripping, disturbing. Lots of ways of describing

0:29.7

what's happened in the two weeks or so since Elon Musk took over Twitter. Now, I think,

0:36.2

and those are the previous video on this, I think many of us did not have particularly

0:41.6

expectations to say the least, but I think the sheer scale of what can only be described

0:47.5

generously as a total claustrophuck. I'm not sure many of us quite appreciated. There

0:53.4

are big question marks about whether or not Twitter will exist. We know that because

0:58.0

those questions have been raised by its actual owner, Elon Musk, of course, has raised

1:02.2

the prospect of bankruptcy. We've seen, of course, mass flight of advertisers, mass

1:08.1

sackings, mass resignations. We've seen the attempted role of Twitter blue, which has

1:14.6

been pulled. The whole thing clearly beyond, I think beyond, the English language is, of

1:22.6

course, immense, but what words to describe exactly what has happened? It's a tough one.

1:28.5

What we're going to do today is, there we go, we have a little cartoon of the Twitter,

1:35.0

the Twitter bird sitting surrounded by fire saying this is fine for those listening to

1:40.7

the podcast. I'm sure you're familiar with that particular meme. What we're going to do

1:44.7

is talk to two brilliant experts today. We want to hear about the inside story. What's

1:48.6

actually happening at Twitter, and where's this likely to lead? Is Twitter basically finished?

1:55.0

I mean, I know the title of this show suggests, I've come up with a quite definitive conclusion,

2:00.4

but we don't know. We don't know what will happen day to day at the moment on Twitter.

2:04.4

It really is a roller coaster, so do hold on tight. Before I bring in, after this brilliant

2:10.8

guest, we have, later I should say, Bruce daisley, who's a former vice president of Twitter

2:17.8

here in the UK. If you're watching live, do click through to the YouTube link, press like
