Number one, Durango Vargas. Considered as the Hannibal Lecter of the Andes, Derengel Vargas, is a terrifying serial

killer from Venezuela.

What makes him so scary is that he hunted his prey who are innocently strolling in a park in San Cristobal.

He was born in 1957 to poor farmers who lived in the jungle along the Colombian border.

At some point he became separated with his family and Vargas became homeless, surviving by

performing petty crimes like stealing cattle and chickens. His third offense however became his first murder when he killed and cannibalized Baltazar Moreno. As a result he was placed in a psychiatric facility and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Depending on the sources, some say he escaped that facility after two years, while others

say he was released by doctors, thinking he didn't pose any threat to society.

Whatever the case may be, after he got out in 1998, he settled in the park in the city of

San Cristable and began watching people pass by. It was here that this place would become

his killing grounds. Vargas would target healthy males, often going after athletes,

laborers, or at times drunkards who wandered into the area.

He never targeted women or children because according to him they do not harm,

while he also avoided obese people because of their contaminated flesh.

Fargis attacked his victims using a metal pipe or sometimes simply rocks.
