In Southern Turkey, there's an archaeological site called Chateauhuyuk.

Chateauhuyuk is over 9,000 years old, and it has one massive structure where a bunch

of people lived.

The structure's roof was a shared collective space, essentially one big community-wide living

room that had holes with ladders leading down into individual dwellings.

Those individual units were presumably four individual families, except that when archaeologists

actually looked at the bones.

The thing that shocked them was that the people that were buried in the hearth were not
