this week. There's been a lot of stuff that has gone on,

especially on social media. And I've had some people request stories. And so we're just

going to get right into it. A joy-filled weekend turned into a scene of unimaginable tragedy

when a Utah mother shot her 11-year-old daughter inside of a Las Vegas hotel room and then turned the gun on

herself. The incident, which authorities are treating as a murder suicide, occurred on Sunday,

February 16th at the Rio Hotel and Casino. The victims were identified as Tanya McGeehan,

who was either 34 or 38. I've seen different reports that differ slightly on her age,

and her daughter, Adeline, who went by Addie Smith, who was just 11 years old. Both were residents

of Utah and had traveled to Las Vegas to participate in a cheerleading competition with their

gym, Utah Extreme Cheer, or UXC. Addy was a young cheerleader with dreams and enthusiasm for her sport.

She loved to cheer.

She loved gymnastics.

Like the members of the cheer community, they all described her as beloved and energetic

and a child who worked hard to earn her spot on a competitive team.

So this was something she was clearly passionate about.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police say that on Sunday morning, cheer team members became concerned when Addie and her mom failed to show up for a scheduled meeting with the team.
