The biggest upgrade the Jets made at quarterback this off season was not going from Justin Fields to Gino Smith.

It was improving the situation.

I'm John B from gangreneation.com on today's episode. We're talking about how the Jets have improved on the offensive side of the ball this off season. Some

improvements are internal. Young players developing. I think that's the case on the offensive

line for the Jets. At the pass catcher spots, the potential is through the roof because the

jets have added a number of really enticing young prospects. But we'll start by talking about

the quarterback position. And of course, the opening day starter this season is projected to be Gino Smith. A year ago, it was Justin Fields.

Fields had a catastrophic season. He was arguably the worst quarterback in the NFL last year for the

Jets. And I think it's easy to look at this and say there's only one way to go, that it can only get

better from here.

Realistically, that's probably true.

But there's a question of how much better things can get.

And if we're going to be perfectly honest, I know that we want to be optimistic, especially

in May at this point of the off season, but the only starting quarterback who was a regular last year,

if we eliminate the guys like the Brady Cooks of the world,

who were really depth guys who got thrown into the lineup,

if we're just talking about the regular starting quarterbacks last year,

Gino Smith's level of play may have been the only one to rival Justin Fields in the entire NFL because Gino himself had a horrible year with the Raiders.

Now, I think that there are obviously always caveats.

And many quarterbacks are kind of the product of their supporting cast.
