Pakistan is it time to restore democracy.

Hello again, I'm Armin Al-Ne and this is To the Point from Public Radio International,

a daily look at the issues. Americans care about most.

Protests against Pakistan's president and chief of the army turned bloody last week, but

thousands turned out again today to demand the rule of law. They accused Pervez Musharraf of

manipulating the justice system to extend his own power. On to the point, the U.S. calls

Musharraf an ally in the war on terror to the tune

of a billion dollars a year, but Musharraf has reduced his efforts against the Taliban and

al-Qaeda. Is he a lame duck who no longer serves America's interests? Should the U.S.

encourage democracy to stabilize a strategically vital country? On reporter's notebook later on, 90 million American war records have gone online.
