There is more understanding of kind of rural economic collapse and what people who live in that

are thinking, doing, believe in understanding than there is in all the news or in all the

analysis of rural economic problems in America.

You could just read David Joy.

You see these people and they're walking down a ridge and they stop and they yell.

They walk 100 yards, they stop, they yelp. They walk 100 yards, they stop, they yelp.

I've never seen a turkey do that in my life. You need to think of it as a conversation.

And it's a conversation that those birds are having, you know, every day. She could

remember ways that they phrased things and how it was different. And when she moved to Paris,

she remembers saying one of them and someone basically equating it to stupidity, right? You know,

she was speaking in this way that all her family had done.

What I told her was I said, I said, you have to say it. Like, you have to continue to say it.

I said, it is central to your identity and to who you are. Right. And when I said that, she started

crying. And it had never crossed her mind how important it was to who she was and where

she came from.
