Recall, if you will, the murder of Joy Blanchard, which occurred on November 3rd of 2007.

Now we brought this brutal attack to your attention back in Episode 5.

We alluded to the fact that after the Hunter and Sherman murders happened, that because

of the similarity of the MOs of the killer, in both instances, that the Omaha PD was

of the belief that the same killer may be responsible for both sets of killings.

After Thomas and Shirley's bodies were discovered with knives that the killer or killers

had taken from the home, sticking out of the victim's necks, Omaha PD began investigating

the Blanchard and Hunter Sherman killings as if they were connected.

The challenge for the investigators was to determine just exactly how they were connected.

Now we as the attorneys in the matter got involved in the case in 2013, after Anthony Garcia

was arrested, and within a couple of months of us entering our appearance in the matter,

discovery started to roll in.

Now the initial set of discovery that came in was from the Hunter case, and it was voluminous.

As we are working through the Hunter investigation now, you as our listeners have a pretty good

understanding that Omaha is having a very difficult time in the early stages of this investigation

determining just exactly who the target was in the horrific double homicide.

Now we will get into the potential connection between the Hunter, Sherman, and the Blanchard

murders much more thoroughly as we progress throughout the case, as the Blanchard murder

would play a pivotal role in many ways with respect to the Garcia case.

And it is a fact that by the time we were hired by Anthony's family, that Omaha PD went

to great lengths to extract every indication from the Hunter discovery that was tender to

us to remove any and all evidence from all of the reports.
