Now, let's join Kurt for today's episode. Hey, friends, welcome back. We're in Psalm 22 in your Bible today.

Psalm 22. So think about just that number. Most of us are very familiar with Psalm 23. We have it memorized. We hear it

at special events, especially funerals of Psalm 23, and rightfully so. The Lord's my Shepherd.

And we'll talk about that here in a couple episodes. I'm looking forward to that.

But Psalm 22 is much more significant when it comes to the

actual ministry of Jesus Christ. Number one, it's a much longer Psalm. Number two, it's a much more

quoted Psalm in the Bible. Now, not much more quoted in church history because Psalm 23 is probably

one of the most quoted Psalms of all time, but Psalm 22 is amazing, amazing prophecy in Psalm 22 about the

person, work, and ministry of Jesus Christ, especially events surrounding his death,

his crucifixion. Amazing. So I want to dive right in and understand this. This is the Psalm of

David. So David certainly went through some profound issues in his life that gave rise to the

testimonial Psalm that we're going to read. But in God's sovereignty, we find not only an immediate

fulfillment in the life of David, but we see the ultimate prophetic fulfillment in the life of Jesus.

And so is often the case with Old Testament prophecy that you will see an immediate fulfillment,

but then you'll see a much deeper and long-term fulfillment in the prophecy as well.
