| 1:11.3 | oral phenylephrine, which is listed as an active ingredient in a lot of over-the-counter |
| 1:15.4 | medications to treat congestion, doesn't actually work. Or should I say, 30 years of data shows |
| 1:21.2 | that it does nothing to decrease congestion. So what happens now, you might ask? Well, not a lot, |
| 1:26.5 | because first off, their research didn't show that oral phenolephrine had any adverse effects. |
| 1:31.7 | So you don't have to worry about anything if you've been taking a medication with that ingredient. |
| 1:35.9 | And most OTC treatments have other active ingredients like acinaminopin to help with nasal swelling. |
| 1:41.7 | So they still do help in congestion situations. But what happens next |
| 1:46.1 | is a long process that involves getting this particular active ingredient off the shelves |
| 1:51.3 | and making sure drug companies don't use it anymore and don't advertise it as something that works. |
