I'm Albert Moller, and this is the briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from a Christian worldview.

0:13.0

Over the last couple of days, headlines have been dominated by controversy that emerged out of a long format interview President Donald Trump gave to NBC's

0:23.0

news program, Meet the Press. And this took place on Sunday. Host Kristen Welker was pressing a series

0:30.0

of questions having to do with the rights of those who are in the country illegally when it comes to

0:36.1

the constitutional guarantee of due process of law.

0:39.8

And so even as Christian Welker was pressing these questions, the president responded in just

0:44.5

about every case by saying, I don't know.

0:46.5

When he was asked about due process rights and whether or not they applied to those in the

country illegally, he said, I don't know.

0:53.2

1:01.5

the Constitution of the United States as president? And President Trump responded with the words,

1:06.7

once again, I don't know. He said, I don't know. He went on to say, quote, I have to respond by saying, again, I have brilliant lawyers that work for me, and they are going to obviously follow what the Supreme Court said, end quote.

1:30.9

do you need to uphold the Constitution of the United States as president?

1:34.9

And frankly, President Trump responded with three words,

1:38.3

no president of the United States should ever use in such a circumstance.

1:42.2

The question, again, do you need to uphold the Constitution of the United

1:45.9

States as president? The president's response, I don't know. Then he went on to say again that he has

1:50.7

brilliant lawyers and that his administration will follow what the Supreme Court says. Now, the explosive

1:57.9

part is the president saying, I don't know after being asked, don't you need to uphold the Constitution of the United States?
