0:13.5	Yesterday the International Criminal Court handed down indictments against the Prime Minister
0:18.7	of Israel and the Leader of Hamas on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Now of course, of We are talking about Israel, the leader of Israel in this case, and other Israeli high officials
0:35.5	being charged with absolutely horrifying crimes in the context of defending the nation against
0:42.0	the terrorist group and the terror attack of
0:44.6	October 7 undertaken by Hamas. Now almost immediately there was in the United States
0:51.4	a recognition that something was going to have to be clarified here very fast.
0:55.0	And I think we need to take the time today on the briefing to understand what is and is not going on here.
1:00.0	And not only is this a big story in itself, it points to an even bigger story in terms of context.
1:07.0	So before we turn to the announcements made by Corrine Khan on behalf of the International Criminal Court yesterday, let's just
1:15.0	consider what in the world we're talking about. For one thing, we're talking about
1:18.6	a body that has three words in the title, International Criminal Court.
1:23.2	Now the two words criminal in court,
1:25.4	we can pretty much understand.
1:27.4	Most of us have the understanding that in the law,
1:30.6	there's a basic division between criminal law and civil law, civil laws, for instance,
1:36.8	a neighbor suing someone for some kind of problem.
1:41.3	When you look at criminal law, you're talking about at least indicted or charged
1:46.6	violations of a law, a law that is a part of the criminal code, and is thus considered a matter of criminal morality.
1:56.6	And as you're looking at this, the word criminals right there, this isn't a civil court,
2:00.6	this is not about adjudicating border disputes.
