Now we can start. Yes. Welcome to the morning show podcast. My name is Anthony. I'm Carla Marie and today is Tuesday, May 17th, 2022. The Core 4. The four headlines you need to know.

Primaries are underway in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Kentucky, Oregon, and Idaho today with some pretty newsworthy races taking place.

We're going to talk about three of those states, and apologies in advance to Kentucky

and Oregon, but compared to the other races, yours are actually pretty normal.

First up is Pennsylvania, where Dr. Oz is going for what I can only assume is the never-before

seen trifecta of heart surgeon, TV personality, and state senator.

With his endorsement from Donald Trump, Dr. Oz is looking to become the Republican

candidate to replace outgoing Republican senator, Pat Toomey.

Looking to flip that Senate seat blue are three Democratic candidates, but the craziest story

in that race for the party's nomination is that the frontrunner, John Federman, is actually at home

right now recovering from a stroke he suffered on Friday. Now, down in North Carolina,

where Republican Representative Madison Cawthorne faces seven different challengers for his seat in

Congress. Cawthorne still has an endorsement from Donald Trump, but he has been making headlines

the last few months. First, when he said he had been invited by older politicians to their

drug-fueled swinger parties, and more recently, when a smear campaign against him, shared

pictures of a younger Cawthorn dressed in women's clothing, and what some would call a

compromising picture and video with another man.

Lastly, we take a stop in Idaho, where the current governor, Republican Brad Little, is hoping

to survive a race against his further right-leading lieutenant governor, Janice McGeachin.

The wackiest thing about their relationship is that on two different occasions, when the governor was out of town, the lieutenant governor claimed to be in charge and issued executive orders to block COVID restrictions, just to have those executive orders rescinded when the actual governor got back to the state.
