Yesterday, we heard the opening arguments and the start of witness testimony in the Derrick

Chauvin trial.

In their opening statements, the prosecution argued that Chauvin was guilty of murdering

Floyd and played new bystander video of the incident.

The defense argued that Chauvin acted in accordance with his police training and that he became

distracted by the growing crowd around the incident and the potential threat from it.

They also argued that Floyd died due to drugs and a host of surrounding conditions.

There were also three witnesses called yesterday.

The first prosecution witness was Gina Scurry, a Minneapolis 911 dispatcher who saw surveillance

feed of Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck from a traffic camera video.

She thought that her feed must have been frozen from how long Chauvin was on Floyd's

neck and she reported it to her superior.

The prosecution's reasoning for calling a 911 dispatcher first was to undercut the defense

argument that this was consistent with Chauvin's police training from someone who was familiar

with the procedures.

The second prosecution witness was Alicia Euler, who works across the street and witness

Floyd's arrest and films it in short clips for more than eight minutes.

The third witness was Donald Williams, an eyewitness to the murder who was also experienced

with MMA and professional wrestling, who gave an account of specifically how Chauvin's

moves caused Floyd to die.
