Three new elephants are throwing their trunks into the ring for the 2024 Republican presidential

nomination.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and the

governor of North Dakota Doug Bergam are all in the process of making it official this

week.

As the total fields of candidates is getting into the double digits, the Republican National

Committee has set qualifying criteria for candidates to participate in primary debates.

In order to join the first debate on August 23rd, which is just two famously fast moving

months away, candidates will need to register at least one percent of voters in three national

polls, and have at least 40,000 unique donors to their campaign, with at least 200 discrete

donors per state or territory, and at least 20 different states or territories.

There's also a requirement that candidates sign a pledge agreeing to support the eventual

party nominee.

Who could that provision possibly be directed towards?

However, these rules don't put a cap on the total number of candidates, as they've said

that they're willing to host a second debate on August 24th if enough people meet their
