A heat dome continues to expand across the Southern United States this week, after hitting

and breaking numerous temperature records this weekend in Reno, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City,

and Death Valley, California.

Today we're going to focus on Arizona, where temperatures have been at or above 110 degrees

for the past 11 days straight.

Daily record highs are forecast to continue through the middle of this week, as well

as in Texas and New Mexico, but today we're giving Arizona its moment in the sun.

Anyway, these conditions have sent at least 10 people to the hospital after suffering contact

burns from touching asphalt or other hot surfaces for just a second.

So far this season there have been 8 heat-related deaths in Maricopa County alone.

Last year the county recorded 425 heat-related deaths, which was up 25% from the year prior.
