Good morning and welcome to the Morning Show podcast. My name is Anthony. I'm Carla Marie, and today is

Tuesday, January 7th, 2025. The Corps 4. The four headlines you need to know. First thing you need to understand about this update

is that up until 2011, gay people were banned from serving in the United States military. So,

why does that matter today? Well, before 2011, if you were outed for being gay in the military, you would be

dishonorably discharged. And when a person is dishonorably discharged, it goes on their military

record, which can be searched by a future employer. And the person in question also loses out

on a ton of benefits that go to honorably discharged service members.

And even though Obama repealed the gay man in 2011, those service members who were dishonorably

discharged before 2011 still weren't getting the benefits they deserved.

Now, thanks to a class action lawsuit that was settled yesterday, the Pentagon agreed to change the status of all of those dishonorable discharges to honorable, which will allow somewhere around 35,000 vets to get the benefits they have been denied.

Louisiana has reported America's first ever human death from the bird flu.

The person who died was over the age of 65 and had underlying medical conditions.

They were hospitalized after exposure to wild birds.
