I'm Sammy Sage, and not only is this our first episode of 2022, but today also marks the

one-year anniversary of the Morning Announcements, and we of course have a lot of news to start

the year.

Last night we had a huge breaking news story.

Elizabeth Holmes was convicted on one count of conspiracy to defraud investors, and two

counts of wire fraud, one of which ironically involved the divorce family.

Yeah, that divorce family.

She was also found not guilty in a conspiracy to defraud patients, and there was no verdict

on three additional charges of wire fraud.

So between Liz and Galein, it's been a tough week for glass ceiling breaking female

criminals, but a great week for accountability.

The name on everybody's lips is still Omicron.

Cases are continuing to go up exponentially, with the world recording an average of nearly

1.5 million new cases every day, which is twice as many days as we recorded nearly a week

ago.

However, at the same time, hospitalizations are not rising nearly as fast, and the illness

remains mild for the vast majority of people who have been vaccinated and boosted.

Other studies that emerged last week found that Omicron may not spread as easily to the

lungs, which could be a reason for its lesser severity.
