Hey there. From the KUOW Newsroom, this is Seattle now. I'm Paige Browning. Coming up,

this could have been the year that lawmakers brought prison reforms to

Washington state but once again legislation to change resentencing laws and

solitary confinement ended up in the cutting room floor our story today what got in

the way but first here are today's top stories. It's Tuesday, April 16th.

Seattle leaders say they want to end traffic deaths by 2030, but it's going to take a lot of work to get there.

Today, the City Council got an update from Seattle's Department of Transportation.

Chief Security Officer Venu Namani says traffic deaths are starting to

trend downward in the city. And preventing deaths is a huge part of the goal.

But the story is slightly different on serious injury collisions. Across all categories,

our serious injury collisions are going up.

Last year, more than 250 people were seriously injured from car collisions.

Nomani says not all segments of Seattle are the same.

Neighborhoods in South Seattle are most impacted by these collisions's crashes and serious injuries.
