It's Tuesday, July 8th. We'll start with an update about the government's oversight of Seattle Police Department. The city has filed a motion

to terminate the federal consent decree that's governed SPD for more than a decade. The decree

has been in place since 2012 after an investigation revealed high levels of

unconstitutional police use of force. SPD was required to make changes, which Mayor Bruce

Harold says they have, according to a motion filed with District Judge James Robart. That includes,

according to the city, major strides in use of force, crowd control, accountability, and crisis management.

So far, there's no hearing date scheduled.

SPD chief Sean Barnes says that the end of the consent degree would not be the end of improving SPD's operations.

No charges were filed today against King County assessor John Arthur Wilson, who was arrested

last week outside his ex-fiancee's home on investigation of stalking. An investigation into

the matter is ongoing. Wilson is running for county executive and is not expected to make it

through a primary election next month. Prosecutors told KUOW today, they're waiting to decide whether to file charges and

will know in the next couple of days how long the investigation will take.
