November 12. Boeing machinists are back at work today. They voted last week to end the 53-day strike.

Meanwhile, thousands of Boeing workers are waiting to receive layoff notices. The Seattle Times reports that employees will find out tomorrow.

The company announced last month it was going to lay off 10% of its workforce or approximately 17,000 workers.

According to the Times, layoffs will be spread throughout the company and could include engineers and production workers.

Seattle City Councilmember Kathy Moore presented her plan for a local 2% capital gains tax.

Joshua McNichols reports Moore's plan is a baby version of the 7% tax that voters just upheld for Washington State.

Councilmember Moore says the tax would raise somewhere between $16 and $51 million in its first year from about 860 of the city's wealthiest residents.

profits made selling large herds of cattle, even though that's less relevant in Seattle.
