and here are today's top stories. It's Tuesday, August 20th.

One Washington resident at this week's Democratic National Convention could make history this November, Emily Randall could become the first queer Latina in Congress.

Randall won the primary last week in Washington's sixth congressional district, which

covers the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsula. Randall says the win has made her reflect on the

long crusade for LGBTQ rights. I think about those stories about how hard people had to fight

and how much more work we still have to do, but what it means to be out and empower and to be

able to work on policy that makes all of our lives better.

Randall spoke to KUOWW from Victory at the DNC, an LGBTQ plus advocacy event.

She'll face Republican Drew McEwen on the November ballot competing to represent a district that has historically voted Democratic.

Now to the primary election that's still too close to call.

In the battle for second place for Commissioner of Public Lands, Democrat Dave Up the Grove is leading Republican

Sue Peterson by just 51 votes. It may change slightly again tonight. With the race so close,

it's likely headed to a recount, perhaps even by hand. Republican Jamie Herrera Butler has

already clinched the top spot to advance to the November general election.
