officially fired former Seattle police chief Adrian Diaz. Diaz had been chief until May when he was demoted. In a letter to the

Seattle City Council today, Harold says an investigation found Diaz had a romantic relationship with a

former employee whom he directly supervised. The mayor says that broke department policies. For his part, Diaz has denied the relationship.

He and the former employee were put on paid leave in October. Diaz's attorney did not immediately

respond to a request for comment. The former chief has also filed a tort claim against the mayor,

alleging that he's being discriminated against for being

gay. In politics, Washington Governor Jay Inslee is on his way out, but today proposed a wealth

tax to preserve critical services as a huge budget gap looms. Jeannie Lindsay explains,

Officials expect a more than $10 billion gap in the state's next budget cycle, and to close it,

outgoing Governor Jay Inslee says he wants to see a 1% wealth tax on the state's richest residents.
