0:14.0	Over the weekend, former President Donald Trump had indicated through social media
0:18.0	that he would be making an announcement yesterday morning
0:21.0	about his campaign's policy position on the question of abortion.
0:26.0	As promised yesterday morning in a video release, the former president did release his policy
0:31.1	proposal and the bottom line is that it's something of a
0:34.2	muddle but what's really interesting is that while he claimed credit for and
0:39.0	deservedly the appointment of conservative justices on the Supreme Court during his term in office,
0:45.0	and pointed to the overturning of Roe v. Wade as a great historic significant achievement.
0:50.6	All that's absolutely right.
0:52.8	Even as the former president was basically laying claim upon that as an achievement,
0:57.5	he went on to say that as a presidential candidate,
1:01.4	he was not calling for any kind of national legislation
1:05.1	to limit abortion.
1:06.0	Instead, he said, and I quote, my view is now we have abortion where everybody wanted
1:10.9	it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or
1:13.8	legislation or perhaps both and whatever they decide must be the law of the land."
1:18.6	End quote. That's a bit of a muddle because states don't decide the law of the land they decide what
1:24.4	takes place within the state and it certainly is not true that what everybody
1:30.4	wanted in this country is for the question of abortion to be returned to the
