between depression and demoralization. So what is demoralization? I think we all

know what depression is at least theoretically but tell us a little bit about demoralization.

Well, how about if I step even half a step back further than that and talk about why we got interested in the subject.

And for me, some of what it was

was looking at activists that had lost their

verve and hearing from multiple people in multiple formats like

needing to get off Twitter and needing to get off of social media

because they was having some effect and they kept saying it was depressing and I think our country in

some ways because of our divides we talk about being depressed and I just want to be

more accurate about what I think is happening from a macro level, but then also on an individual level.

So for listeners out there, the difference between these things, it makes a big difference because what you want to do about it takes you in two

different directions. That makes a lot of sense because when yes we can be

depressed about what's going on in our culture no matter which side of the line

you fall blue or red there can be many avenues

for feeling depressed last couple of years.

But oftentimes that's not really what we're meaning.

What we're meaning is we feel like we just can't have an effect.
