Summary
Ash and Kristen begin a three-part investigative series on the abduction of 11-year-old Sally Horner, the real child whose 1948 kidnapping would later echo inside one of the most controversial novels ever written, Lolita.
In Part I, Ash breaks down how a convicted sex offender posing as an FBI agent groomed and kidnapped Sally, launching a 21-month ordeal built on authority, manipulation, and fear.
Next week, we revisit the grooming and abduction of Jan Broberg. And in the finale, we put all three stories side by side- exposing the shared blueprint of coercive control, isolation, social camouflage, and narrative manipulation that connects them.
Because these aren’t just separate cases. They’re the same pattern... repeated.
TW: For everything mentioned above... this is an upsetting topic that I found very difficult to research, make sure to take care of yourselves 🫶
STUFF TO CHEER YOU UP:
- Ash's list of "Comfort Shows" (and where to watch them for freeeee)
- Ash learned a dance and actually filmed it... aka Ash dancing alone in …her yard aka "How Ash Likes to Party"
- Behind the scenes of Ash struggling to make a simple dance video ft. her SPARKLY BOOTS!
PODS TO KEEP YOU INFORMED:
- It Could Happen Here- It Could Happen Here started as an exploration of the possibility of a new civil war. Now a daily show, it's evolved into a chronicle of collapse as it happens, and an exploration of how we might build a better future.
- Higher Learning with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay - Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay dissect the biggest topics in Black culture, politics, and sports. Two times per week, they will wade into the most important and timely conversations, frequently inviting guests on the podcast and occasionally debating each other.
- Pod Save the World - A weekly podcast that breaks down international news and foreign policy developments, but doesn’t feel like homework.
- This F*cking Guy - Erin Ryan and Alyssa Mastromonaco, co-hosts of the podcast Hysteria, do a deep dive into the lives of some of the worst b*tches in the game - and let you know everything there is to know about their horrible, corrupt, and dishonest pasts.
- Behind the Bastards - There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
- Gaslit Nation - Gaslit Nation provides a deep dive on the news, skipping outrage to deliver analysis, history, context, and sharp insight on global affairs. Hosted by journalist and filmmaker Andrea Chalupa, an expert on authoritarian states who warned America about Russia and election hacking before the 2016 election.
- The Daily Show: Ears Edition - Jon Stewart and The Daily Show News Team cover today's biggest headlines. The “Ears Edition” of The Daily Show features full episodes, extended content, exclusive interviews, and more.

| 0:00.0 | Hey friends, your host Ash here. Before we started today's episode, I just wanted to let you know that this week, I really kind of banged my head against the wall, struggling with what to release. |
| 0:12.6 | Because in the Graham Hancock episodes, I said that we were going to try to keep TSFU a safe space where you could come to sort of ostrich or stick your head in the sand |
| 0:22.2 | if you needed to, and that I wouldn't be covering the ice raids, Epstein files, or other current |
| 0:27.4 | events. But the research and recording and editing of these episodes was already way in motion. |
| 0:33.2 | So if you have been diving into the Epstein files and themes of crimes against children is too |
| 0:38.8 | triggering or overwhelming for you right now, you may want to skip the next few episodes, |
| 0:44.1 | as they all focus on patterns of authority, grooming, isolation, trafficking, social camouflage, |
| 0:51.5 | narrative control, and public misunderstanding. If you haven't checked out the Graham Hancock episodes yet, |
| 0:57.0 | I highly recommend those if you need something a little bit lighter right now. |
| 1:01.0 | I like to think that I know my audience pretty well, |
| 1:04.0 | and I know that many of us are very passionate and also quite sensitive, |
| 1:08.0 | so please remember to take care of yourselves. I also wanted to give a huge shout out to our editors for doing such an amazing job dealing with such rough audio files. And here comes a motorbike now. |
| 1:24.6 | Sometimes there's just really nothing to be done about the motorbike sounds in the background here in Bali. |
| 1:30.3 | And at this point in time, I simply can't afford different recording equipment or the ability to rent a soundproof recording space. |
| 1:37.3 | I know that these are tough financial times for many of us, but if you have a few extra dollars to spare on a monthly basis or even for a |
| 1:45.4 | one-time donation, any support is greatly appreciated. And I'll put links to our Patreon and to my |
| 1:51.6 | go-fund me in the show notes. If monetary support is off the table, I completely fucking get it |
| 1:57.6 | and truly appreciate you just being here to listen. Another great way to support |
| 2:02.0 | me and the show is by leaving a rating and review on Apple Podcasts or recommending us to a friend. |
| 2:08.4 | Thanks so much for being here, you guys, for your continued support. And like I said, |
| 2:13.3 | please remember to take care of yourselves right now because as me and Kristen talk about so often, it is fucking rough out there. |
| 2:23.3 | That is so fucked up. |
