The Sord and Trial episode that follows was recorded on February 18, 2022, just a few days after Prime Minister Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act in Canada.

Graham and I talked about the invoking of that act and the things that were taking place in the Freedom Convoy protests, primarily in Ottawa, and we try to think about it principally from the

Word of God. Our desire in that episode was to think from the Bible to that specific situation,

but more importantly, to identify biblical principles that should govern Christians in all of our

thinking about civil unrest and about civil disobedience. We realized in doing

so that there might be applications that Christians would make differently from situation to situation

and from time to time. But since that episode was recorded, and in fact, while we were recording

it, things have severely escalated in Ottawa.

There have now been outbreaks of violence.

There have been some expressions of brutality by the police against its citizens.

There have been somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 arrests, and by the time this goes out

through the podcast networks, it may be well over 200. There have been confirmed reports

of police arresting people, putting them in vans, and then drive them out of the city in the

middle of nowhere and releasing them. There have also been citizens who have been harmed by

police efforts to disrupt crowds or to move crowds away from the center of Ottawa.

So all of these things indicate that this governmental overreach is indeed an act of tyranny.

It's a sad thing to watch. And as we do in the podcast, we want to encourage everyone to pray

for Canada, pray for the prime minister, pray for the police officers

and the truckers, and to encourage all those of goodwill and especially God's people to stand for

what is right and good and true and to be unafraid to speak against evil and to call evil

what it is and to call upon the authorities in Canada

to fear God to remember that they are his servants.
