Hi, good morning to you. It is Sunday, June the first. We're four months into Donald Trump's second term, and we're finding out in real time what happens when expectations meet reality.

On the campaign trail, Trump said he'd lead the largest mass deportation operation of criminal

illegal aliens in American history.

He said he'd tariff the hell out of other countries to enrich America, which he did.

But then he also said that he could end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza with a phone call,

among other things.

Many candidates make ambitious promises that hit roadblocks when they're faced

with the reality of governing, but Trump's promises went to unbelievable lengths, quite literally.

For all the populist appeal he's got, you cannot forget that the president and his allies

have trafficked in a lot of conspiracy theories from the fringes of the far right all the way

into the White House. At Trump's campaign

rally, supporters showed up wearing merchandise or holding signs that reference things like

the 2020 election lies or QAnon or Fed Surrection, the conspiracy theory that members of the

federal government indicted the January 6th insurrection. Trump often entertained those far-fetched

ideas on the campaign trail. He stoked people's beliefs in them to solidify and grow his base

of supporters. Now that he's back at the head of government, believe it or not, his supporters

actually want him to follow through with his campaign promises, including exposing the so-called

deep state and releasing information

about that and other wild conspiracies.

Except maybe there's nothing to expose.

That's the reality that the FBI director, Cash Patel, and his deputy director, Dan Bongino,

seemed to be discovering much to their dismay and public embarrassment.
