I thought I'd begin with one of my favorite metaphors for really the spiritual path, but in

this case coming to a retreat.

And it's described as if we're jumping off a plane with a parachute.

And then we realize, oh my gosh, there's no parachute.

And then we realize there's no ground to hit.

And then we realize that there's no one who jumped.

Now some of you may be thinking you're still at the, oh my god, no parachute stage of things,

right?

But what's interesting, I mean, one of the beautiful parts of the practice is realizing

we've kind of jumped off together and some of the same experiences are coming up.

And we all are noticing how in the midst after we've jumped, in the sense of here we are,

there can be this kind of frantic struggle for control, the sense of, okay, how do I work

with this one?

And what am I doing here?

How do I apply the right strategy?

And if the figuring out mode, and you might have noticed how many moments that goes on,

and then there's the what's ahead mode, including maybe for some what's going to be like when

I get home?

Nah, not this group, right?
